Continuous Line

The simplest definition of line is the path between two points.

Our very walking  exemplifies this basic element of art and the unavoidable intertwining of art and life. As the foot print of our lives had become so much smaller during months of quarantining and people we have known, cared about or loved have reached major turns or taken their final step, I have wondered, what the path created by my, your, their steps visually looks like....over a lifetime, a decade, a season, a year, a month, a week, a day?

While it is true a step taken can not be untaken, the next steps can be adjusted and the path eventually makes a different arc. It’s all so fascinating  and hopeful to me! With that thought in mind, I picked up a pen and markers flipped the page in my sketchbook and started anew, again, with color. This drawing is part of a continuous line series that starts into the picture plane in one place and exits out in another, with color and embellishments. Isn’t that truly what life is??
